Languages

In NSW primary schools, the study of a language is optional.

Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of social interactions.

Greek and Chinese language programs are available. Students learn one of the languages from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Lessons focus on conversational Greek/Chinese words of greeting, colours, numbers, letters and other words and sentences that the students can use with each other, family members, language teachers and other community members. The COGs units of work being undertaken in classrooms are complimented during language lessons through revision of words and topics and introduction to the Greek/Chinese translations.

Classes are run in a friendly environment through games, songs and children's interactions with each other.

Both of our Language rooms have interactive whiteboards to support the teaching and learning programs.
