Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Concerts

A whole school concert is held to showcase the singing, dancing, drama and music talents of our students. Concerts are held biannually. The concerts are produced by staff and held at University of New South Wales in the Clancy Auditorium.

2018 is a concert year and we look forward to the upcoming performance.

Art Shows

To showcase the artistic talents of our students a biannual Art Show is held. The evening commences with performances by school groups such as the junior and senior bands, choir, Greek dance group and Showcase dance group. The school hall is set up with displays of student artwork for family and friends to view. A variety of media and techniques are used in the artworks such as painting, sculpture, clay, collage and digital photography.

Band

Directions in Music

The Maroubra Junction Public School band program contributes to each student's development musically, socially and developmentally. We give all students from years 3 to 6, regardless of their previous experience, the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and perform with an ensemble in a fun, encouraging and enjoyable environment.

Our school band is managed by Directions in Music who bring their skills and many years of experience to all areas of our band's development. Their energetic teaching team provide a motivating environment, encouraging all students to reach their full potential through a sequenced program of music.

 - Junior Band rehearsal 8.00-9.00am Wednesday

 - 30 minute group tutorials during school on Wednesday afternoon

 - Senior Band rehearsal 2.30 – 3.30pm Wednesday

Performance is the key to musical success, and our band students are involved in a number of in-school performances as well as external events throughout the year such as the Yamaha Music Festival and Daceyville Big Band Bash. Playing in a band can contribute to a student's development of team and community spirit, self-esteem, social interaction, self-discipline and responsibility. But above all it's a lot of fun!
